Some thoughts to have BEFORE buying a Hot tub – Part 2

Part 2:  What are proprietary parts and why should I consider this important?

Let’s talk about somethings that most people don’t even realize they should think about when they start shopping for hot tubs.  There are many things that you should be thinking about, so we’re going to take this step-by-step (One blog at a time).

What? Proprietary parts?  What this means is that Certain manufacturers find that they can make more money from the end consumer by forcing them to purchase certain parts at a premium.  What exactly does that mean?  It means that they will make or have made certain parts and put their name on them and patent them so that this product can only be made for them exclusively.  If this item were to fail, break, deteriorate (ultimately needs replaced) you as the consumer can only purchase the part through their Dealers or from the manufacturer directly driving the price up for the consumer.  Not a problem?  During our research, we have found that Dealers who have access to these parts often sell these parts for A LOT more due to the exclusivity of the part.  In the age of the internet, consumers cannot “shop around” for the best pricing available.
